A delightful oil landscape in a palette of blues and greens by the listed American artist Alice Valenstein. On board. The painting depicts a bay surrounded by green hills, with red-roofed houses and banana trees in the foreground. Some very light surface scratches to the top two corners in the sky, and a single fleck of paint loss to the eave of the house in the lower left.
Impressionist in style with the lines of the house capturing some of the style of her semi-abstract work.
Very simply framed in wood. Morett of Mexico sticker to the back of the board. This particular framer seems to have been in operation in the 1940s.

"Alice Valenstein's One-Man Showing
An exhibition of the recent painting* of Alice Valcnateln (Mrs. Lawrence Valcnateln of Mamaroneck Rd.) was opened this week with a reception and private preview at the Krasner Gallery, 1061 Madison Ave., NYC. Her current works reflect a significant influence from Oriental art. Mrs. Valenstein has received numerous honors, including the ex\ibition of a Persian Screen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and xn award at the Brandeis University Festival of Arts. She has also won prizes at the Westchester Arts and Crafts Ass'n Exhibit, and her work has been placed on permanent display at the Staten Island Museum. She has repeatedly won awards also at the exhibitions of the Scarsdale Art Ass'n. Mrs. Valenstein’s talents have not been restrained to painting alone.
