An idyllic birch copse probably in Surrey, England, by listed artist Abraham Hulk, Junior. Oil on canvas over a stretcher, painting measuring 10' by 14", in a later frame. Signed (in small lettering) in black paint to the very lower right corner of the painting.
Abraham Hulk, (1851 - 1922), was the son of a famous maritime artist, Abraham Hulk. He worked primarily in the UK but also traveled back to his native Netherlands on occasion. His delicate brushstroke and attention to natural light garnered much acclaim and he exhibited at the Royal Academy and Royal Society of British Artists.
The painting is in excellent condition. The later frame is separating at the corners and shows scuffing along one edge. The work would benefit from a new, more attractive framing.
