A stunning hand-carved, and decorated fish decoy by Howard Winter, of Capital Falls, Upper Michigan in the 1940s or 50s. One of nineteen made through Mr. Winter's life, this lovely perch is gold with bright yellow eyes and black dots with further yellow circles along the flanks. Four gold-painted metal fins, and one gold-painted metal dorsal fin behind the embedded ring for the line. Metal weight to the underbelly. The fish does show some wear with some minor chipping of the paint here and there, and rubbing to the weight. Only three remaining decorative dots on the left side, versus four on the right. Otherwise, the condition is very good vintage.
A stunning example of American sporting art.
Length: 5" in length and 1" in width including the fins.
