Lovely Old Sheffield Plate table snuff (or trinket) box. Gadrooned edges, hinged lid, measuring 4" by 3.25 by 1.5" high, with a family crest depicting a horse engraved on top. Hinges are still excellent, copper showing through along the gadrooning around the crest and in a number of smaller areas to the lid. The left seam to the front of the lid is slightly split resulting in the lid on that side overlapping the lower front side of the box, some light scratches to the lid, some small dents, and very light copper rubbing through on base, stamped Made in Sheffield, with some fantasy silver hallmarks reminiscent of real marks stamped to base.
A solid, charming, and very collectible box dating from the early part of the 19th century, and plated in the Old Sheffield way, not EPNS.
It acquired such a luster when I cleaned it up, it was very difficult to photograph!
