A very rare signed small Nekrissoff silver plate bonbon dish. As you can see from the photographs, the dish shows some significant rubbing to an area in the center, with less obvious rubbing around the edges, and there is some scattered tarnish, especially on the reverse. The dish has been lightly hammered resulting in a rippled fish scale-like pattern on the front and rear.
Serge Nekrissoff was born in Russia in the late 1800s and eventually moved to the US. His workshop was in Darien, Connecticut (the home of yours truly) and it is from here that he produced an array of beautifully crafted pewter, enamel and copper items for the home. He worked only briefly using silver plate, making these pieces fairly elusive. Based on the rear markings, this dish probably dates from the 1950s/1960s.
