An absolutely gorgeous bisque active Kewpie, manufactured in Germany in the early 1900's. This particular model is called Blunderboo. He is as new despite being nearly 100 years old, and was acquired at an estate sale in Connecticut; where he had been kept safe in a suitcase for decades and decades. He is absolutely perfect, not a blemish.
Rose O'Neill, the creator of the Kewpie doll, was a well-known poet and illustrator, who invented the Kewpie figure when deeply depressed after the break down of her marriage. The dolls went on to become iconic and are still in production today.
The earliest dolls, such as this, were made in Germany out of bisque. Some are signed with the O'Neill signature - this one is not, but he is numbered 5519.
