2 Vols, Large Octavo, Second Revised Edition, with sixteen illustrations on steel, a fine half-binding in brown morocco with burgundy gold and cream marbled boards carried through to endpapers, four raised bands on spines, some light rubbing to the leather and minor, top edges gilt, some light handling dirt to blanks but otherwise interior is clean and bright and hinges are extremely good. All 16 illustrations present, a very handsome set, Richard Bentley and Son, 1883, 1884.
First published 1823, this new and improved edition appeared in 1863.
Henriette Campan was the Première Femme de Chambre (First Lady in Waiting) to Marie Antoinette, and thus spent much time with her. Her fascinating memoirs revealed daily life at the court and the eventual fall of the House of Bourbon during the revolution.
A beautiful edition.
